This set of 3 Léti fetishes in "imitation ivory" bone are carved by fishermen from the Indonesian archipelago of the Moluccas.
They were finely hemmed with geometric patterns inspired by the region's primitive tattoos, then tinted with black ink to enhance the contrast.
They are surmounted by the emblematic figure of the Léti society: a fetish sitting with his arms crossed with his enormous pendant earrings, in a position of meditation, inspiring respect, as during the "great councils" which punctuated the life of the Community.
The sculpture made it possible to communicate with the spirit of the deceased, either for consultations on important questions.
