Immerse yourself in timeless elegance with this sumptuous Empire-style gondola bergère armchair, inspired by the refined aesthetic of the First French Empire.

Its enveloping silhouette and generously proportioned seat naturally invite relaxation. Upholstered in magnificent blue velvet, the deep-buttoned backrest provides soft comfort while enhancing the armchair’s sophisticated character.

The armrest supports take the form of hand-carved swans finished with gold leaf. A recurring motif in Empire decorative arts, the swan is associated with Apollo and notably symbolises beauty and love.

The frame is crafted from solid beechwood and finished in a warm mahogany colour that highlights the natural richness of the wood and its carved details.

The straight, square-section front legs taper gently towards the floor, reinforcing the armchair’s structured appearance. The seat rail is decorated with carved circular motifs and enhanced by a line of antique-gold upholstery nails.

The seat is traditionally constructed on webbing and protected underneath by a white dust cover. This method contributes to the stability and comfort of the armchair.

Developed during the reign of Napoleon I, the Empire style draws inspiration from classical antiquity and favours symmetrical compositions, structured lines and decorative motifs such as laurel wreaths, eagles, palmettes and swans.

This bergère incorporates several of its characteristic features, including its enveloping gondola back, sculpted armrest supports and mahogany-coloured finish enhanced with gilded details.
