This painting represents a historical type scene "Gallery of views of modern Rome" painted by Giovanni Paolo Panini.
The original of this painting was painted between 1754 and 1757.
This is a set of views belonging to the architectural caprice genre: it depicts in detail a large room housing a collection of imaginary paintings depicting different places in Rome contemporary with the artist.
Also represented are reproductions of sculptures by Italian artists.
