Beautiful set of 2 pendant necklaces from the Sumba Islands (Indonesia).
They are still particularly used during ritual ceremonies.
The shells are fished by the inhabitants of the islands, then cut into the shape of a coin before being strung.
These coins were once used as currency and are combined here with coins made from buffalo horn.
Elegantly presented here on a matte black steel base.
The ceremonial Sumba necklaces are woven by hand and are presented here on a matte black "museum piece" metal base.
