More info

Superb painting reproduction on canvas with aged and cracked effect, mounted on an aged wooden frame also patinated, as if this painting had been discovered while searching in an old attic, a work of art hidden out of sight and preserved preciously.

This painting represents a landscape of "Landscape with Ruins" painted by Marco & Sebastiano Ricci.
The original of this painting was painted in 1725.

It is an imaginary representation of ancient ruins painted with "4 hands" Marco Ricci was Sebastiano Ricci's nephew and his collaborator, Sebastiano Ricci having trained him in painting.
Marco Ricci in his youth, manifests Neapolitan influences and creates seascapes and landscapes tormented by storms influenced by Magnasco.

In maturity, Marco Ricci's painting denotes a sensitive approach to nature, particularly in its rendering of atmospheric variations according to seasons and weather. In his landscapes of ruins, he shows an already pre-romantic sensitivity, preferably using a light palette reflecting the effects of sunlight, opening the way to the whims of Francesco Guardi.

For Sebastiano Ricci, in 1671 he would have been Federico Cervelli's apprentice in Venice. According to Tommaso Temanza (1705 - 1789), on the other hand, he would have had as first master Sebastiano Mazzoni. It is quite probable that he was first a pupil of Cervelli and then of Mazzoni.

"He had in common with Giordano the ability to imitate any style...when he had to represent any subject whatsoever, he remembered how such and such a master would have treated him and he profited without malice... even if he had not relied on the technique of drawing in his early years, he learned enough of it later, perfecting himself tirelessly in the academies he still attended as an adult. [...] the compositions are governed by truth and common sense. Although he was very good at handling the brush, he did not abuse it, as many have done, in a hurry.
